Who replaces lightbulbs?

As a tenant, find out more about policies regarding changing, purchasing, and generally replacing lightbulbs.

As a rule of thumb, you should always consult your lease agreement for specific details regarding your obligations as a tenant.

Typically the resident is responsible for purchasing and changing out all lightbulbs in the residence for the duration of their tenancy.

Some examples of exceptions to this policy might be:

  • If the light bulb is out of reach and the tenant cannot gain access to it without being in harm's way
  • If other underlying electrical issues could cause the tenant to be in harm's way

In these circumstances, the tenant should place a maintenance request online and explain the circumstances preventing them from replacing the lightbulb independently.
