Handling neighbor disputes and reporting criminal activity.

How to handle neighbor disputes and criminal activity for a safe and comfortable living environment.

As a tenant, it can be challenging to deal with neighbor disputes and criminal activity, especially if you are new to the neighborhood. However, it's important to address these issues to ensure a safe and comfortable living environment. In this article, we'll provide you with some tips on how to handle neighbor disputes and criminal activity effectively.
  • Try to Resolve the Issue with Your Neighbor
If you're having a disagreement with your neighbor, try to resolve it peacefully. The first step is to communicate with your neighbor and try to understand their perspective. If you feel like they are violating your rights or privacy, you can politely let them know how their actions are affecting you. However, avoid getting into an argument or being confrontational.
  • Report Criminal Activity to the Police

If you witness criminal activity in your neighborhood, such as drug dealing or theft, you should immediately contact the police. It's important to provide as much information as possible, such as a description of the suspects and their location, to help the police respond quickly and effectively.

  • Take Precautions to Ensure Your Safety

If you feel unsafe in your neighborhood due to criminal activity, take precautions to protect yourself. For instance, you can install additional security systems on your doors and windows, or invest in a security system. Avoid walking alone at night and stay aware of your surroundings when you're out and about.

If you change locks, ensure you provide our offices with a copy of the new keys.

If you wish to add a permanent feature to your property like a security alarm or additional locks, place a maintenance request on your portal and we can bill you for the item or email our staff for permission.

  • Know Your Rights as a Tenant
As a tenant, you have certain rights that protect you from harassment and discrimination. If you feel like your neighbor is violating your rights, you should consult with a lawyer or a tenant advocacy organization to understand your legal options.
  • Know When to Involve the Landlord

It is important to understand that the Property Management Company will not become involved in tenant disputes. As the Landlord, we shall uphold the rights of all tenants impartially as they pertain to the lease and the law. Tenants should not involve Management in neighborly disputes until such a time when they breach the lease agreement, break the law, or threaten the condition of the property.

When it becomes necessary to inform Management of breaches such as those listed above, the tenant may email our staff with detailed information including photos, videos, and any police statements filed.
